This is our brand new, independent, ethical, boutique book publishing imprint.
Our first book, They Call Me Ammah, is a little book about a big story. Ruby Thambyrajah, her husband and children, were the first Tamils to migrate to Australia at the end of the White Australia Policy.
Ruby generously shared her life story with Truepenny Director, Jacquelene Pearson, and we are sure it will resonate with migrants, families, women, mothers and teachers. It’s about loss, endurance and the power of faith.
Truepenny Books intends to bring you many more titles in the months and years ahead. If you’re a bookworm subscribe to our newsletter so you don’t miss the release of any new titles. If you are an author or illustrator, looking for a publisher, please consult our commissioning guidelines.
Each of our new books will be released as paperback print editions, available exclusively through The Point shop. Our social justice ethos means that we will also donate $1 from each book sold to a specified charity. Once we reach our print targets, we will then make a digital version of the book available and distribute via amazon.
Subscribers to The Point e-newsletter will be able to purchase our books at a 10% discount.
Commissioning Guidelines
Truepenny Books is a new, independent and ethical Book Publishing Imprint owned by Truepenny Media (TPMTP Pty Ltd). Thank you for considering working with us on your book.
1. Send us your idea: The first piece of information we request from our prospective authors and illustrators is a description of what their book is about: fiction or non-fiction and an executive summary of either the plot (fiction) or chapter plan (non-fiction). It is also a great idea to have a target audience or market in mind when pitching to a publisher. Who do you think will purchase your book? Are there similar books that you will be competing against? If so, include brief details. Your whole idea should not be more than 1500 words. Send your idea with your CV to jackietruepenny@outlook.com
2. Consider our author/illustrator agreement: if we are interested in publishing your project we will respond to your initial email and send you a basic agreement. We will then have an initial meeting with you to make sure our ideas and processes are aligned. Depending on the stage of your book’s development when we enter an agreement with you, we will either ask for a comprehensive project proposal, this will be discussed at the time of engagement, or some feedback on the manuscript you have submitted for our consideration. If you’re proposal is unsuccessful we will let you know via email and attempt to send some feedback to assist your future direction.
3. Contract signing: Once we’ve made it through the preliminaries and have a firm plan for the project, you will be offered a contract. This will set out the specifics of the responsibilities of the author and publisher, including marketing, distribution and royalties.
4. Project delivery: this will include specified timeframes for manuscript delivery, editing and review, peer review, further editing and revisions, peer review and test reading, design, printing, pricing, distribution and marketing. Project delivery terms and conditions will vary depending on the nature of the project.
