The Point is Truepenny Media’s independent news site with a unique focus on news about the environment, social justice and democracy. The Point is full of free news, researched and written by humans, for a new humanity. The huge multinational platforms including google, META’s facebook and Instagram, TickTock and YouTube have revolutionised how we absorb information about our world.
The outcomes of this platform revolution are astonishing and appalling. Everyone can ‘own’ a news page via any social media channel – we are all citizen journalists, publishers, bloggers, vloggers and influencers. Public interest journalism – the expert gathering and exposure of information that the public needs to know – is disappearing, and that’s dangerous.
National and international news is either first-hand, unedited and raw, including unfiltered footage from victims of war or natural disaster. Otherwise, it is highly curated, censored, slanted and sterilised – more like propaganda than news.
The Point’s editorial ethos is to report the stories that the major corporate news brands ignore – what’s happening to the planet and how can we limit the impacts of global warming? Why are so many humans homeless or living below the poverty line and what can we do to create more equity? What does the future hold for democracy?
Our content fits into three main categories: the environment; social justice; and democracy/governance. Around the edges we cover culture and the arts, ESG investing, sustainable energy, the climate crisis and housing – all major issues of our time.
Every Friday at 6am The Point’s weekly e-news is delivered to the inboxes of our subscribers. It’s free and includes a short editorial from our publisher along with the week’s main stories. This is a great way for our audience to make sure they never miss a story. Our open and click-through rates are substantially higher than our competitors’ so the newsletter also has advantages for advertisers and sponsors looking to connect with an educated, high-net-worth and socially- and environmentally-conscious audience.
If you have an event you would like to promote, send it to jackie@thepoint.net.au and we will publish the details on The Point’s event pages
We host our own events, called Truepenny Talks, which we also promote via all our websites, including The Point's events pages.
The Point news site provides several advertising options to help achieve your goals. For 2024-25 we’ve decided that our commitment to social justice needs to be reflected in what we charge our advertisers. We don’t think you will find an advertising package as cost-effective as ours anywhere. We also offer exclusive digital space to our advertisers for the period of their campaign – no sharing space with other advertisers. Advertisers are selected for each available space on a “first in first served" basis each month. If you are prepared to book and pay for a space for a year in advance, that space is yours!
Check out our rates. Shop around to see if you can do better, then place your order with our advertising specialist.
If you do not wish to advertise but you do want to support Truepenny and The Point, ask us about our once-off and ongoing sponsorship packages.
Does your organisation support a charity or cause? Why not buy an advertisement for that charity or cause? Our rates are the same as if you are paying for an ad for your own brand with one big difference. We will publish a story, for free, about your CSG commitment and your logo/sponsorship details will be included in the ad design. You’re really promoting two brands for the price of one.
If you want to support The Point, pledges on our Buy Me a Coffee page start from only $5, you can leave us a message and invite others to support our journalism. https://www.buymeacoffee.com/thepointesgnewssite
